the Gamma Kappa Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta

Inspiring the highest type of womanhood since 1874.

The University of Nebraska - Kearney

OUR Story

Founded over 140 years ago, Gamma Phi Beta became the first ever  "sorority" and began its mission of building strong women of character. These women strive to promote personal and intellectual growth. The four founders had no idea that their organization would serve as a home away from home for over 200,000 women in the United States and Canada.

At the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus, the Gamma Kappa chapter of Gamma Phi Beta was brought to life on May 11, 1963 by 33 ambitious women. Over the years, membership has grown to nearly 80 current members. We aim to create a culture of support, acceptance, and unconditional love for each member. Gamma Phi Beta provides the tools for women to uncover their potential in a safe and fun environment.

"Since the rock is the firmest and most enduring substance, able to withstand the ravages of time, and offering the strongest protection, it seemed fitting that Gamma Phi Beta should be thus founded."

- Founder E. Adeline Curtis. Syracuse 1874

Hello!

Welcome to the official website of the Gamma Phi Beta Gamma Kappa Chapter at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

On behalf of the whole chapter, I am proud to tell you more about what the women of Gamma Phi Beta stand for and work towards every day. Since the Gamma Kappa Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta was installed at UNK in 1964, we have been proud of our many academic successes, philanthropic contributions, and involvements in the Kearney community. Even more than that, we take pride in being a group of women who strive to build each other up and "inspire the highest type of womanhood". In the Spring of 2022, the women of Gamma Kappa Chapter had an average GPA of 3.4! In addition to academic success, our chapter raised over $4,000 through our annual Pancake Feed that was held in March of 2022. All of these proceeds were donated to our philanthropic partner, Girls on the Run, and a local non-profit organization called the Kearney S.A.F.E Center. In the Fall of 2022, we will be hosting our Moonball philanthropy event to also raise money for Girls on the Run. Keep an eye out for ticket sales and information on how to donate during the months to come! Our members are active in numerous other campus organizations and clubs, including UNK athletics, learning communities such as the Thompson Scholar Learning Community, UNK Admissions, The Antelope Newspaper, and so much more. For the Kearney community, the women of Gamma Phi Beta contributed 859 community service hours in the fall of 2021.

I am truly grateful for everything that Gamma Phi Beta has given to me during my time as a student at UNK. The women of this sorority inspire me to be a confident woman of character in everything that I do. They have encouraged me to accept opportunities and chase after dreams that I never could have thought possible... including this position! This chapter accepts me for who I am while encouraging me to strive for greatness. I am forever changed by this organization, and I can firmly say that one of the things I take most pride in is being a Gamma Phi Beta woman.

To the moon and back,
Brooke Benck // Chapter President
